About C. Janelle

Where it started
My journey into art began at a time when I was looking for something new. After losing my job, I started exploring painting as a hobby. What began as something to focus on slowly became something much more meaningful. It became a passion.
Painting became a moment of calm for me. When I paint, I enter a kind of flow that feels almost meditative, where everything else fades into the background. It gives me the opportunity to slow down, be present, and simply create.
Over time, that passion grew into a dream. A dream of building a life around something I genuinely love.
My work
I am drawn to abstract art, colour and the freedom that comes with not having to define exactly what something means.
One of the things I love most about art is that everyone sees it differently. A single painting can hold completely different meanings for different people. I don't want to tell someone what they should see or feel. I want to leave room for their own interpretation.
My work is inspired by nature, but translated through my own visual language. I take elements, feelings and impressions from nature and turn them into something more refined and design-oriented.
I am drawn to the balance between movement and stillness, colour and space, detail and simplicity. I deliberately create areas of openness and emptiness within my paintings, allowing the eye to rest and the work to breathe.
Wabi-Sabi
At the heart of my work is a philosophy I have carried with me for years: Wabi-Sabi. To me, it means that imperfection is perfection.
I don't believe beauty has to come from everything being perfectly controlled. There is something special in the unexpected, the imperfect and the human touch.
I am drawn to work that feels clean, elegant and sophisticated, while still retaining something organic and imperfect. That balance is something I continually explore in my work.
What I hope to create
When someone first sees one of my paintings, I want them to feel drawn in.
I want them to stay for a moment, to look again and discover something they didn't notice at first.
I hope my work can create a sense of calm, while also bringing a subtle feeling of luxury into a space.
Ultimately, I want my work to become more than something beautiful hanging on a wall. I want it to become a small part of someone's sense of home.
That feeling of coming home, looking around your living or working environment, and simply thinking: I'm home. I feel good here.
The dream
I am proud of what I create, and I am excited to see where this journey can take me.
My dream is to see C. Janelle grow beyond my own studio, with my work represented in galleries and homes across different cities. I hope to build a body of work that people connect with in their own way and that becomes part of the spaces where they live and work.
For now, I am following the passion that started it all: creating.
